2019 Cartagena International Music Festival

11 Days of Celebration

The annual Cartagena International Music Festival is gearing up once again for yet another unforgettable 11 days of celebration, toasting classical music in all its forms! The festival opens this January 5th (2018) with the grandiose inaugural concert of music for orchestra and great symphonic forms at The Theater Adolfo Mejia and runs through the 16th, ending with the Parque Sagrado Corazón Estrena Concha Acústica Barranquilla—a wonderful close to one of the biggest and best music festivals in Cartagena.

This year’s theme is “El Gusto por la Forma. El estilo clasico” or the Taste for the Form: the classical style. Featured artists will delight guests with their unique interpretation of the style created by great masters like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach hundreds of years ago when Cartagena was a thriving seaport in the Spanish Empire. Music lovers will meet, mingle, and experience this near-transcendental experience in one of the most historic and charming old cities of The New World. Be astounded as these gorgeous notes echo off walls that first heard these songs in their infancy.

Cartagena International Music Festival – The Performers

Every year the lineup of guest artists, performers, and maestros at the Cartagena International Music Festival gets better and better and this year is no exception. Audiophiles visiting Cartagena this January will be treated to performances by:

• Austrian Cellist Julia Hagen
• American director Michael Alexander Willen
• German chamber orchestra Münchener Kammerorchester
• The Schumann string Quartet
• The Wiener Mozart Trio
• Italian Mezzosoprano Elena Belfiore

And many more!

These performances will be held in a variety of venues from open-air stages spread throughout Cartagena to some of the most culturally important stages in historic theaters inside the city. While some of the shows require tickets, many more are free to the public.

This unprecedented freedom allows visitors to come and enjoy sonatas, concertos, and more after a day of exploring Cartagena!
(For more information about ticket prices and pickup locations see the Cartagena International Music Festival website.)

Open Calls of Master Classes

Once again the Cartagena International Music Festival will be holding master classes so young musicians from all over the world can learn from the greatest in the business today. Open calls began at the end of October and run right up until the festival beings. These classes are open for students between the ages of 18 and 25 and will feature multiple international teachers versed on instruments such as the flute, the clarinet, the harp, and trumpet.
