Plane Flying into Cartagena Colombia

Cartagena by Plane

We have compiled an overview list of basic information to assist you in your travel plans to Cartagena. This will provide you with a good guide of direct and indirect flight routes when preparing your trip.

Europe

If you are coming from Europe there are two major hubs. You are very likely to have a connecting flight in either Miami or Bogota.

Miami is extremely well versed in handling huge numbers of visitors and it is very easy to get to your connecting flight.

Bogota up until recently and being the 50th busiest airport in the World would have been an absolute nightmare. However, fortunately two new airport terminals have been built in recent years. T1 for domestic and T2 for International easing the pressure both on the airport and your blood.

USA

You can fly from the USA to Cartagena via Miami (Avianca) or Fort Lauderdale using (Spirit Airlines) or (Jet Blue) in just under 3 hours. Flying from New York (Jet Blue) takes a little under 5 hours. Delta Air Lines will start to flight out of Atlanta as of December 19th, 2015 which is just in time for the peak holiday period in Colombia.

Canada

Canada provides direct flights on a seasonal basis from Toronto-Pearson with Sunwing Airlines

Central America

From Central America the obvious route will be via Panama City (Copa), which is a 2.5-hour flight.

South America

If you are flying from South America you are very likely to either be flying direct or via Bogota or Panama.

Asia

From Asia you will go over the northern hemisphere to Toronto or across Asia and through to europe and London/Madrid for your connecting flights. Whilst a long haul, you have the beauty of stopping off in some of the most amazing cities in the World.

A dual or treble destination honeymoon. London/Madrid > Cartagena > Rosario Islands followed by bliss!

Domestic

Domestic Colombian flights fly to Cartagena from a number of Colombian cities, including Medellín, Bogatá, San Andrés, Cali, and Pereira via national carriers Avianca and Copa Airlines.

As a reluctant alternatively, you could fly into Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ) in Barranquilla and go via road to Cartagena. The journey will take approximately 2hrs (133 km) via the I-90A. If this is your only option, we can arrange for transport to pick you up.

Private Plane

Cartagena, Colombia Jet Charter’s are available and a good option would be to use Prive Jets. Again this is something we can assist you with.

Rafael Nuñez International Airport

Rafael Nuñez International Airport is 2 miles (3.2 km) from the historic Old City of Cartagena and can be reached by taxi or bus, which takes about 15-20 minutes.

There are taxis cabs outside the airport that can be taken without reservation. Taxi fares start from COL$8,000, depending on where you are going but will likely cost around COL$15,000 (2015) for a trip from the airport to the Old City.

A strong sincere recommendation would be to allow us to arrange a private car to pick you up on arrival. This will make the process smooth and efficient allowing you to get to your destination with ease and in the best possible comfort.
